West Virginia’s artistic renaissance sparked way back when, with Appalachian heritage crafting, roots music and storytelling. Creative innovators that we are, we’ve also pulled in contemporary arts, musical styles and theater, melding into a vibrant and passionate arts scene. You’ll find arts alive in every corner of every city across this state, from the orchestra productions at Carnegie Hall and Broadway at the Clay Center to the informal pickin’ circles, contra dances and quilting bees in the nearest town.
SPORTS & NIGHTLIFE
Cheer on the team during a baseball game, hockey match or race. The rivalry of the neighboring Princeton Rays and Bluefield Blue Jays stirs some passionate semi-pro baseball fans, but the toast-tossing fans of the capitol city’s Appalachian Power get pretty into the plays, too. The inaugural season of the West Virginia Black Bears ended with a championship. The Wheeling Nailers bring the excitement on the ice.
And on the track? Pretty much every vehicle or wheeled contraption you can think of is rigged up and racing: motorcycles, ATVs, dirtbikes, BMX bikes, karts and more.
After an evening of arts & sports, grab a drink (perhaps a local brew or spirit?) at one of the many bars, from low-key local spots where you can have a chat to the happening resorts and hangouts alive with music and dancing. Still not ready to tuck in for the evening? The casinos keep the fun rolling all night long.
