Shrek the Musical

Everyone's favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar-winning, smash hit film. SHREK the MUSICAL will be presented three weeks at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater in Chief Ligan State Park on June 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, and July 1st. Shows starts at 8:30pm. Advance tickets can be purchased at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3373012. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears. "Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

Steel Magnolias Dinner Theatre

The Aracoma Story Inc. will present “Steel Magnolias” at the Logan Country Club as a dinner theater. The play takes place in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married). The outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy." It is filled with hilarious repartee and a few humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, the ladies find themselves with the sudden realization of their own mortality, but they also draw on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. Tickets can be purchased at 304-752-0253. Tickets are $30, which includes dinner. The play will run April 5th, 6th, 7th and April 12th, 13th, 14th. Those dates start at 6:30pm. Sunday matinees will be offered April 8th and 15th at 3pm.

Irish Road Bowling

Irish Road Bowling consists of a ball made of iron and steel that is heavy enough to pick up speed, yet small enough for any person to handle. Besides the basic rules and terms, all you do is hurl this 28 oz. sized "bowl" with an underhand motion over a 1 to 2 mile country road and see how far it goes! Scored like golf, the fewest number of shots from the start to the finish line wins. Irish Road Bowling is similar to fast pitch softball, except with a running start. It's also like bowling if you had enough room to run 10 or 15 yards. Irish Road Bowling is ideal for young athletes or seniors who are looking to enjoy a scenic walk on a country road, combined with an ancient and exciting, but not overly strenuous, sport! October 27 Chief Logan State Park, Logan, WV www.chiefloganstatepark.com Saturday 11:30 a.m. Registration begins 10:30 a.m. Irish road bowling was an old sport before the American Civil War, and Irish emigrant soldiers for both the North and South rolled small cannonballs down country roads between battles. Come and throw cannonballs with us in the morning, then join Civil War re-enactors in the afternoon at Chief Logan's all-day Civil War Days extravaganza. The WVIRBA adds an ancient sport, Irish Road Bowling, to the rich sports tradition of Logan, West Virginia's City of Champions. At 4,000-acre Chief Logan State Park with its outdoor amphitheater and wildlife center, you can loft a bowl beneath the statue of Logan, famous Chief of the Cuyoga -Mingos, or in the footsteps of Aracoma, legendary Princess of the Shawnees.
