CHARLESTON, West Virginia (November 3, 2016) – Good fall color can be found at Kanawha State Forest where the foliage is reported to be extraordinary. Other bright spots of color can be found throughout the Kanawha Valley and southwestern counties of West Virginia, especially along riverbanks. Leaves at higher elevations in the state have either dropped their leaves or are past peak color and will soon drop their leaves. The majority of oak trees remain green, which is not uncommon. Oak leaves are usually the last to change color, if they change at all, before falling from the tree.

Things to see and do

With Daylight Savings ending this weekend, plan for an extra hour of play in the Mountain State!  Take the kiddos for some hands-on fun at Heritage Farm’s Way Back Weekend, complete with museum tours, wagon rides, petting zoo and more. Hit the trails at the newly opened Forks of Coal Natural Area for the Alum Creek Family Fun Run and Nature Walk, or stroll around small-town Berkeley Springs for the Trails and Trees Studio Tour to peek at the works of talented West Virginia artists.
