Canaan Valley Institute Research & Education Center

Canaan Valley Institute’s Research & Education Center (REC) features three conference rooms, each with capacity for 50 occupants, or combined occupancy of 120.  A state of the art computer lab and fully-equipped science lab complement the meeting space. The REC has several green features that make it eligible for the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) designation. Some of these features include wastewater treatment through an Eco-Machine™ and Clivus Multrum, a composting toilet; natural lighting; and use of environmentally-friendly materials including steel, concrete, HardiePlank®, metal, and stone. The REC is located on 3,223 acres near Davis in Tucker County, West Virginia. The property includes a portion of the northern face of Canaan Mountain bordered roughly by State Route 32 to the west and the Canaan Valley watershed along the ridge of Canaan Mountain. The Blackwater River runs through CVI property for about 2.5 miles, closely paralleling the Camp 70 Road (Delta Road 13). CVI's property is open to the public for hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and other non-motorized outdoor recreation. Hunting and fishing are in accordance with West Virginia state regulations. Trout stocking takes place in spring and fall and is performed by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
