Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park
Blennerhassett Island is a gem. Visiting the island is 'a must see ' attraction in West Virginia. Access to the island is via a 20-minute sternwheeler ride on the Island Belle departing from Point Park in Parkersburg, W.Va.. The 19th century-style riverboat plys the beautiful Ohio River, carrying today's passengers into a bygone era. Public excursions are available from May through the last weekend of October on a varying schedule. Constructed by a wealthy Anglo-Irish couple, Harman and Margaret Blennerhassett, the reconstructed Blennerhassett Mansion was known in its time as the Ohio Valley’s most beautiful private residence. The Museum of Regional History is also part of this state park's attraction since 1988. A four-story brick building has had several lives, and today, on the corner of Juliana and Second streets in downtown Parkersburg, this museum invites the public to engage in its history.
